Aka Akasaka, best known for his romantic-comedy Kaguya-sama: Love is War, is retiring as a mangaka — but will continue to pen stories.
The mangaka made this announcement today on his official Twitter account in Japanese, and in the wake of Kaguya-sama’s last published chapter.
Aka and Shueisha previously held a contest in Young Jump searching for a new artist, with Aka set to pen a new series for the magazine.
Besides Kaguya-sama, Aka is also known for authoring the ongoing series Oshi no Ko, illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, which depicts a stark look into the life of an idol and the media industry.

Kaguya-sama’s anime adaptations will continue to keep fans afloat
Kaguya-sama started serialization in 2015, lasting seven-and-a-half years and 281 chapters. Known for its strong characterization that often lampoons other romcoms while still ensuring character growth, the manga has sold more than 19 million copies.
The anime stemming from the manga has also been acclaimed. After three seasons, the series will be receiving an official movie adaption covering a fan-favorite arc from the manga.
