MAPPA’s Jujutsu Kaisen animated series includes a wide cast of colorful characters, including protagonists Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki. Created by mangaka Gege Akutami, the shonen anime follows high school student Yuji, who joins the Tokyo Jujutsu High School to learn about curses and take down a powerful foe named Ryomen Sukuna.
The series has since become one of the most popular anime of 2021. It was eventually followed by the prequel blockbuster movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and a stage play adaptation.
Ahead of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 in 2023, we list down the five strongest characters in the franchise. While they may not all be fighting for the same side (or even the right cause), they all maintain an unwavering focus on their end goal — something we could all learn a few lessons from.

Yuki Tsukumo is one of the four special grade sorcerers in the series, and mentor of grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer, Aoi Todo.
Not much is known about her abilities, except that she knows how to use Simple Domain, a technique that counters Domain Expansion.
She first demonstrated a portion of her strength when she effortlessly saved people from Uraume’s Icefall attack. Uraume is a 100-year-old curse user who is also a loyal follower of Sukuna.
Yuki is constantly traveling in search of the answer to eliminate all cursed energy around the world, and she is also one of the most experienced sorcerers of the lot.
4. Yuta Okkotsu
If you have seen Jujutsu Kaisen 0, you already know why this character is on the list.
JJK 0 protagonist Yuta Okkotsu is a child who has the potential to surpass Satoru Gojo. He is a descendant of Michizane Sugawara, one of the big Three Vengeful Spirits. Yuta also defeated Geto Suguru when he was still a freshman at Jujutsu High.
When it comes to his abilities, Yuta possesses the power of the vengeful curse of Rika Orimoto, his childhood friend. His full potential remains unknown, but from what we’ve seen in the prequel movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0, he is very strong.
With Geto referring to Rika as the “Queen of Curses,” with cursed energy far superior to Gojo, we can only imagine the yet-to-be-unlocked potential that Rika and Yuta have together.
Yuta also knows how to use the Reverse Cursed technique, which takes cursed energy and turns it into positive energy commonly used for healing.
Yuta can imitate Toge Inumaki’s Cursed speech ability and is also adept at using swords during combat.

3. Kenjaku (Geto Suguru)
One of the main antagonists of the series, Kenjaku, is also on this list.
Kenjaku, who manipulates Geto Suguru’s body, is one of the most evil sorcerers in history. He aims to turn all of humanity into cursed spirits and to usher in a golden age of jujutsu sorcery. Despite his sinister plans, Kenjaku is always calm and cheerful by nature.
He is also quite knowledgeable when it comes to jujutsu sorcery and curses. His intellectual prowess is something to be feared as well since he was the mastermind behind the entire Shibuya incident.
As for his abilities, Kenjaku can possess the bodies of others by transplanting his brain to his target. Once he has possessed a body, he can use his victims’ curse energy and all their abilities.
Currently, Kenjaku is using the body of the late Geto Suguru, which is why he can use Geto’s Cursed Spirit Manipulation (Uzumaki) technique.
Just like Mahito in Jujutsu Kaisen season one, Kenjaku can also use the Idle Transfiguration technique, which makes him even more dangerous. This technique lets him reshape the soul of anyone he physically touches.
In other words, Kenjaku is a beast that cannot be controlled. He is determined to exterminate the weak because he believes the weak only hinder the growth of the strong.
2. Ryomen Sukuna
Meet the King of Curses — Ryomen Sukuna. He is the true definition of evil in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
This sadistic, cold, and unscrupulous king has the most elegant Domain Expansion in the series. Everyone screamed in fear when he was around, and the Shibuya incident was proof of this. In fact, the difference in strength between him and Kenjaku is not even close.
Sukuna is a fearless and selfish entity, a sorcerer who chooses to turn into a curse and has extraordinary strength and speed.
In a fight against the special grade cursed spirit Jogo, Sukuna effortlessly punched his opponent’s volcano-shaped head and slammed it into the roof of a building. Jogo fights back with his most powerful technique, Maximum: Meteor, but Sukuna was able to avoid this attack with his incredible speed and phenomenal reflexes.
In addition to his innate techniques of Dismantle and Cleave as his main attack, he also has pyrokinetic powers. In fact, Sukuna himself was a little surprised when he found out how to use pyrokinesis. We’re guessing he has other undiscovered techniques that have still not been shown in the manga and anime, which makes him even more dangerous.
We should also remember the way he understands cursed energy and the brilliant brain he has. It is not surprising that he was able to rise above everyone during the golden age of jujutsu.
1. Satoru Gojo
Everyone agrees that Satoru Gojo is the strongest among sorcerers and curses in Jujutsu Kaisen. His birth is believed to have altered the balance of the world, as stated in chapter 96 of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.
One of his family’s techniques, the Six Eyes, lets him see cursed energy in detail. Gojo wears a blindfold to reduce the intensity of this ability. He also knows how to use Limitless, another technique that Satoru inherited from the Gojo clan. Both of these abilities remain unmatched in the series.
A prominent figure in jujutsu, Satoru evokes fear in his opponents and commands the respect of his students.
He has massive curse energy, amazing physical strength, and infinite speed. He can also easily adapt to circumstances and has effective control over his Domain Expansion.
