Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 add a reworked Gunsmith system that offers deeper customization than ever.
The new weapon tuning system lets you tweak individual attachments to prioritize specific performance attributes, such as aim down sight speed, recoil control, aim walking speed, and more.
It is an extremely granular system that puts unprecedented control in your hands, but it isn’t quite as straightforward as it looks.
Here’s how weapon tuning works and how you should really be using it.
How to get more out of weapon tuning in Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2
Weapon tuning is unlocked when you reach the maximum level for each gun.
You will then see a “Tune” button above every attachment, except for certain slots like the laser, magazine, bolt, and bipod underbarrel attachments. Clicking the button will take you to the tuning page, where you’ll have the option to tweak seven different attributes:
- Handling
- Mobility
- Recoil
- Accuracy
- Range
- Fire rate
- Damage
Every attachment comes with a horizontal and vertical slider. Each slider presents a choice between two or three attributes, such as handling and recoil control, or aim walking speed and aiming idle stability.
Dragging the slider will adjust the peaks in the graph. However, it is important to note that the slider is not linear. This means that if you want to build for snappy movement and aim down sight speed, moving the dial to one extreme will not automatically provide you with the best benefit.
The various points on the graph shift erratically. In some cases, they stop increasing past a certain point, or even begin to decrease slightly. There is often a sweet spot to look for, where you can enjoy the maximum benefit from one attribute without tanking the other.
For example, the popular KAS-10 584mm barrel on the Kastov 762 can be tuned for recoil steadiness, aim walking speed, aim down sight speed, and damage range.
The optimal point sits at somewhere around +0.31 lb for the verticle slider, and -0.26 in for the horizontal slider. It’s important to keep an eye on the graph at all times, so you can tease out the precise point where each attribute is at its maximum.
Don’t make the mistake of simply dragging the dial to one end — you likely will not be getting the best possible stats out of the weapon.
