We finally have a release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. A new tweet from the official Call of Duty account confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 is set for an October 28 release.
Modern Warfare 2 (officially titled Modern Warfare II) is the sequel to 2019’s stellar Modern Warfare reboot. Both games are based on the original Modern Warfare games that came out in 2007 and 2009.
The game will also be built on a brand new engine, according to Infinity Ward, which will serve as the foundation of a new iteration of Warzone as well.

Task Force 141 returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Infinity Ward and Activision also dropped a new artwork reveal trailer that plays up the realism its titles have historically been known for.
Aerial drone footage from the port of Long Beach in California shows shipping containers adorned with the faces of familiar Operators from Task Force 141.
“Task Force 141 makes its massive return with a global squad of iconic veterans,” the description for the trailer reads.
These include Operators like Captain John Price, Simon “Ghost” Riley, John “Soap” MacTavish, Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, and new Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas.
A ship eventually docks at the port, revealing the official poster for Modern Warfare 2 in fittingly over-the-top fashion characteristic of the franchise.
Activision has a lot hinging on the success of Modern Warfare 2. After lackluster sales numbers for Call of Duty: Vanguard, the company is reportedly skipping 2023’s Call of Duty title, which means that Modern Warfare 2 will remain its tentpole game for the next two years.
More details are expected to arrive on June 8 with a potential reveal trailer, just a day before the Summer Game Fest.
