Call of Duty: Warzone is coming to mobile devices, confirmed Activision. The battle royale game has been a runaway hit on both PC and consoles, and the company is now looking to bring that experience to smartphones.

The Call of Duty publisher is currently hiring for roles in Warzone mobile, spread across its development and publishing teams.

“We are creating an all-new, AAA mobile experience that will bring the thrilling, fluid, and large-scale action of Call of Duty: Warzone to players on the go,” wrote Activision in its announcement post.

The game is reportedly being developed natively for mobile devices, so it won’t simply be a direct port of the existing version of Warzone.

Warzone mobile is also separate from Call of Duty: Mobile, even though the latter game already has a battle royale mode. While Call of Duty: Mobile is technically part of the franchise, it was actually created by Chinese developer TiMi Studio Group, a subsidiary of Tencent.

On the other hand, Warzone will be developed by Activision Mobile, a new in-house studio dedicated to creating more AAA mobile games.

There was no mention of when Warzone mobile might launch and the game appears to still be in the early stages of development. However, it will be entering an increasingly competitive field, with popular shooters like Apex Legends, Valorant, and Battlefield having also confirmed that mobile versions are on the way.

Nevertheless, Warzone mobile could still end up being extremely lucrative for Activision. Call of Duty: Mobile has reportedly raked in over US$1.5 billion in global player spending since its launch in 2019.

Other mobile battle royale games like PUBG: Mobile and Garena Free Fire also rank in the top 10 most popular mobile titles, according to Sensor Tower, so there is clearly a healthy appetite for the genre on mobile.
