There’s been a shake-up in the OpTic Texas house.
The team has announced the addition of amateur Call of Duty Challengers player Daniel “Ghosty” Rothe. This comes shortly after last night’s revelation that Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal had been released from the team.
OpTic wasn’t the first team in line to grab the player following a strong showing in 2022. A report from Dexerto claims Florida Mutineers, who have been going through a shuffle of their own, had their eyes set on the rising star. That opportunity “changed drastically when OpTic started asking around about potential amateur talent to bring into the fold,” according to the report.
Ghosty earned the North America Challengers Elite Stage 1 MVP title thanks to his insane K/D across all game modes, netting him the highest in the circuit at an overall of 1.29. Clearly, it was noticed.
OpTic Texas looks toward the amateur player Ghosty to bounce back
It’s been a turbulent start to 2023 for OpTic, which saw the midseason retirement of Call of Duty legend Seth “Scump” Abner prior to these new changes on January 17. With that retirement, the planned departure of Brandon “Dashy” Otell to make room for Cuyler “Huke” Garland was cut short, and the former remained on the roster.
The recent Call of Duty League Major Two event in Boston saw the green wall finish in fourth place with the lackluster performance of the now-released iLLeY drawing plenty of attention. iLLeY ended the event with a 0.83 overall K/D according to Breaking Point. When you’re an organization with a history in Call of Duty as deep and rich as OpTic, numbers like that typically cause a reaction.
Ghosty will be looking to show he can hang with the top-tier competition and if his performance from Challengers transfers over, we’ll be watching a star in the making.
These changes leave OpTic Texas with the following roster moving forward:
- Daniel “Ghosty” Rothe
- Brandon “Dashy” Otell
- Cuyler “Huke” Garland
- Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro
OpTic is set to make its first appearance with the new roster on February 18 where they will be facing the Los Angeles Guerrillas in the CDL Major Three online qualifier.
