Global esports championship tournament World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) has announced the cancellation of its CS:GO Asia-Pacific (APAC) finals event due to the threatening spread of the new coronavirus strain.
The WESG released an official announcement on their website, enforcing the decision “to limit international travel in order to control the spread of the coronavirus.”
The event was originally set for January 3-5 in Malaysia, but was later postponed to February 16-18 in Macau. A total of 16 teams were affected by the cancellation, with the top two performers supposed to qualify for the WESG Global Finals scheduled for March.
However, with the Global Finals venue set for Chongqing, China, there is a chance that the outbreak may cause further postponements and cancellations.
WESG will release further announcements as the situation develops.

Originating from the province of Wuhan, China, the new strain of coronavirus is posing serious health risks as it spreads around the world.
As of January 24, nine countries already have confirmed cases – namely China, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, the United States, and France. The virus has affected a total of 900 people worldwide and has already claimed 26 lives, according to NBC News.
