Cyberpunk 2077 developers CD Projekt Red and Japanese animation studio Studio Trigger have announced an anime series based on the game called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be an original animated series that tells the story of a street kid and his journey to becoming a mercenary outlaw or a cyberpunk.

The series will be set in the same universe as the video game, but Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will have a standalone story with new characters roaming around Night City.

The Cyberpunk anime will surely be something both fans and non-fans can enjoy.

“I do like to think that it’s going to be a great gateway for newcomers to come and check Cyberpunk game and also the cyberpunk genre as a whole,” said producer Saya Elder.

Hiroyuki Imaishi (Neon Genesis Evangelion key animator, Kill la Kill director) will direct the series along with Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann episode director) as his assistant director and Hiromi Wakabayashi (Darling in the FranXX producer) as his creative director.

We will also see the art style of Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia character designer) as he will do the character design for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is slated for a 2022 release on Netflix. It will have a total of ten episodes.
