Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg is already YouTube’s biggest star, but the Swedish content creator has now signed a deal to livestream exclusively on the platform as well.
While PewDiePie’s video uploads may have millions of views each, he has yet to capture a larger streaming demographic. He had a short stint with DLive, a platform that he lauded as one that prioritizes creators, but he is still far from the likes of Fortnite streamer Turner “Tfue” Tenney and his 8.1M followers.
“Live streaming is something I’m focusing a lot in 2020 and beyond, so to be able to partner with YouTube and be at the forefront of new product features is special and exciting for the future,” PewDiePie said in a press release from YouTube.

With this exclusive partnership, PewDiePie will already have the backing of his 104 million subscribers to solidify his streaming efforts. If he can convert one-fourth of his current subscribers to devoted live-stream viewers, he will be miles ahead of the most followed channel (Tyler “Ninja” Blevin’s old channel with 14M subscribers) on Twitch.
Seeing as how PewDiePie’s growth as an internet star has been exponential, his venture into official live-streaming will be a big movement in YouTube’s streaming scene. Just as how Ninja has become Mixer’s poster-boy, PewDiePie will be pushing YouTube to the forefront to compete with the biggest streaming platforms out there.
