Legendary anime movie director Makoto Shinkai continues to dominate the global box office with his newest work, Suzume no Tojimari.
The film premiered in Japan in November 2022 and has grossed US$102 million (JP¥13.9 billion) in Japan at the time of writing.
Suzume no Tojimari is now the 15th highest grossing film of all time worldwide, and the ninth highest grossing anime film of all time in Japan.

Suzume no Tojimari surpassed Jujutsu Kaisen 0 to become the 9th highest grossing anime movie in Japan
Shinkai’s hit film dethroned MAPPA and Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in the ninth spot of the highest grossing anime films of all time in Japan.
JJK 0 earned about US$100.8 million (JP¥13.7 billion) at the time of writing, and was hailed as the highest-grossing movie of 2021 in the country.
With this milestone, Shinkai now has three films in Japan’s top 10 highest grossing anime films of all time, including Kimi no Na wa (Your Name) and Weathering with You.
Your Name grossed US$184.5 million (JP¥25.17 billion) at the third spot while Weathering with You earned US$104.3 (JPY¥14.2 billion).

Suzume no Tojimari follows the story of the titular protagonist Suzume and a traveling young man named Souta. The two discover a mysterious door in the mountains, and soon, all over Japan.
International fans can watch Suzume no Tojimari in theaters, with screenings scheduled from February to April.
