Calling all Malaysian peanut butter enthusiasts – Jobbie has teamed up with Zotac Gaming to create the world’s very first limited edition peanut butter for gamers. Yum!

Officially named Jobbie’s Pong – Berry Matrix Peanut Energy Crunch, this delicious concoction for gamers isn’t your ordinary jar of peanut butter.

The name is inspired by Pong, the first arcade video game ever created, and it comprises a thick peanut mousse with dry-roasted peanuts and freeze-dried blueberries and strawberries for that extra crunch.

“Pong, is an energy crunch, meant to be eaten directly from the spoon itself,” said Joseph Goh, creator of Pong and one of the founders of Jobbie.

Think of it as a liquid energy bar instead of a spread. And there you have it – someone actually legitimized eating peanut butter straight from the jar.

That was it for me. My curiosity was piqued and I bought a jar with my own money for “testing purposes”.

Since Pong was made to be eaten straight from the jar, I had to test it as it was intended to be eaten. With a spoon.

My desk kitties were on standby for emotional support.

This stuff is potent. It tastes really nutty – as peanut butter usually is – but isn’t as sweet as I thought it would be. I was expecting a very sweet and fruity-tasting butter because of the strawberries and blueberries, but that’s not what I got. If anything, I didn’t really taste the fruit bits until I was chewing on them, although the subtle fruity aftertaste from the dehydrated berries was pleasant.

If you love a strong and not-too-sweet nutty flavor with a little crunch, you might actually like this. However, I found eating it alone to be a bit too much for me.

That said, I’m more of a peanut-butter-on-bread kind of gamer, so I naturally had to try it that way as well.

I’m a bigger fan of Jobbie’s Pong on bread for sure. It’s not as overwhelming compared to eating it from a spoon, and I still get to enjoy all the wonderful flavors at once.

The smooth peanut mousse and crunchy berries on a soft slice of bread. Mmmm…

This could be my bread bias talking, but let’s be real. When is peanut butter not good on a slice of fresh bread? Never.

Is Jobbie’s Pong worth it?

Overall, I’d give Jobbie’s Pong a 7/10 score. I like the fact that it’s a more savory option compared to conventional peanut butter, and the additional crunch from the berries was a nice touch.

But at RM56 (US$13) for one jar, I’m not sure I’ll be purchasing another when my Pong runs out. The whole gamer angle feels like too much of a gimmick to me, and I’ll be sticking with my regular peanut butter.
