Another Sony video game movie is gaining momentum with a big casting announcement. With the Milla Jovovich-led Monster Hunter already set to come out in US theaters later this month, the big-screen adaptation of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid has officially booked Oscar Isaac to play its iconic protagonist, Solid Snake.

Isaac, who played X-wing Starfighter pilot Poe Dameron in the most recent Star Wars trilogy, will work with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island), who has been attached to the project since 2014. Detective Pikachu, Jurassic World, and Kong: Skull Island screenwriter Derek Connelly is handling scripting duties for the film.

With video games increasing and reaffirming its popularity throughout this pandemic-riddled year, it makes sense that Hollywood is looking to capitalize on the growing global audience. This high-profile casting news just adds more fuel to the fire, even if access to movie theaters remains limited to this day and production schedules remain at the mercy of COVID-19-related delays.

What makes the official announcement more fun is that Oscar Isaac has openly expressed his interest in the role as early as March last year. In an interview with IGN, Isaac didn’t skip a beat when he and his Triple Frontier castmates were asked if they’d be interested to do a video game movie.

“Metal Gear Solid, that’s the one,” Isaac said with an emphatic raise of a finger.

Vogt-Roberts was definitely onboard with the idea, adding a tease of his own alongside some masterful Photoshopping by digital artist, BossLogic.

So now that the Hideo Kojima masterpiece has a lead star, who could be in line to be the perfect foil for Solid Snake? BossLogic has yet another great idea:
