The leading European Dota 2 teams have partnered with CIS organizers Epic Esports Events and WePlay! Esports to host the multi-level OMEGA League with divisions in Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
The OMEGA League’s European division will have a US$550,000 prize pool across two subdivisions, the Americas division will give away US$40,000 across two subdivisions, while the Asian division will have a US$40,000 pot.
The European division is separated into the Immortal and Divine subdivisions, with both featuring 12 participating teams.
The Immortal subdivision will have a US$500,000 prize pool and features Team Secret, OG, Team Nigma, Alliance, Natus Vincere, Team Liquid, Virtus.pro, FlyToMoon, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Evil Geniuses (who will be competing in Europe instead of the Americas for this league), and two qualifier teams.
Meanwhile, the Europe Divine subdivision will have a US$50,000 prize pool, with its participating teams being determined through a Closed Qualifier featuring tier two and three teams from Europe and CIS.
The Americas division is separated into the Divine and Ancient subdivisions, with both also featuring 12 participating teams.
The Americas Divine subdivision will have a US$31,500 prize pool and will feature Quincy Crew, 4 Zoomers, Business Associates, Beastcoast, Thunder Predator, Infamous Gaming, with the rest of the field rounded out by two qualifier teams each from North and South America.
The Americas Ancient division will have a US$8,500 prize pool and will get its participating teams from a Closed Qualifier featuring up-and-coming teams from the Americas.
Finally, the Asias Divine Division will have six teams each from China and Southeast Asia competing for a cut of its US$40,000 prize pool.
Neon Esports, Team Adroit, Reality Rift, and Cignal Ultra are the invited teams from Southeast Asia, while Aster.Aries, Blaze, EHOME.Immortal, and Ocean are the invited representatives from China. Both regions will field two more qualifier teams apiece to round out the division’s 12 participants.
“The suspension of the DPC has thrown our competitive scene into a sort of twilight zone populated by an array of small tournaments making it very taxing on players, and hard for fans to engage emotionally,” representatives from Alliance, Liquid, Na’Vi, Nigma, NIP, OG, Secret and VP said in a statement.
“We decided to work together as a coalition of organizations, driven by our commitment to the fans, our love for this game, and the will to create a more sustainable competitive ecosystem around DotA 2. OMEGA League is the first tournament coming from this partnership and everyone involved has poured their hearts into making it worthy of those mythical weeks in August.”
