Chinese organization PSG.LGD have announced that star players Lu “Somnus丶M” Yao and Xu “fy” Linsen have left their Dota 2 team.
PSG.LGD announced the departures on their official Weibo and Twitter accounts, revealing that Somnus and fy both left the team as free agents after their contracts expired.
Fy, widely considered as one of the best position 4 support players in the world, first joined PSG.LGD back in September 2017 after spending most of his career with the Vici Gaming organization.
Meanwhile, Somnus has been with the LGD organization since 2014 after also starting his career with Vici Gaming. Despite being benched early in his stint with the organization, Somnus steadily improved to eventually cement himself as the best midlaner in China.
The two have been a major driving force behind PSG.LGD’s dominance over the Chinese Dota scene in recent years, leading the team to a second place finish at The International 2018 (TI8), a third place finish at TI9, and two Major championships.
“Even the finest feast to an end sometimes and the highlights in those years will always be remembered. Not only have you achieved great things in the professional scene, you also left your own marks in the history of the LGD Esports club. Thank you for all the efforts and contributions you’ve made to the team. We sincerely wish you splendid prospects in your future career,” PSG.LGD said in their farewell message to Somnus.
“You have accompanied us through an unforgettable time. Thank you for the great contributions you’ve made since you joined the LGD Esports club. We will always remember the time we fought together. We sincerely wish you every success in your future career,” PSG.LGD said in their farewell message to fy.
Now that they are no longer with PSG.LGD, Somnus and fy are expected to join the Four Angry Men (4AM) organization to lead their Chinese superteam. Both Somnus and fy were reported to be leaving the team to form the core of 4AM’s superteam in early August.
The duo’s departure from PSG.LGD is not the first major roster change to have struck the Chinese scene this month, as Vici Gaming recently lost star offlaner Zhou “Yang” Haiyang and coach Bai “rOtK” Fan in free agency. Yang is notably among the star players expected to join the former PSG.LGD duo in the 4AM superteam.
4AM is also reportedly pursuing Yang’s Vici Gaming teammate, Zhang “Eurus” Chengjun, as well as EHOME’s Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida and Zhang “y`” Yiping, who were a part of the Wings Gaming lineup that won TI6.
Other high profile free agents that may also join 4AM’s superteam include Song “Sccc” Chun and Pan “Fade” Yi, who left Team Aster at the end of last month.
4AM, one of the biggest PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) organizations in China, announced their entry into the Dota 2 scene in early August. The organization was founded by Wei “GodV” Zhen, who notably played as the midlaner for LGD’s League of Legends (LoL) team from 2014 to 2017 before he shifted to PUBG and started his own organization.
