A new partnership in Southeast Asia is taking shape, with former EVOS Esports CEO Ivan Yeo joining forces with esports organization Geek Fam.
Geek Fam will be rebranding its esports teams to Geek Slate, starting with its Dota 2 roster.
Geek Fam rejoined the competitive Dota 2 scene on November 29 last year, when they formed a new team for the DPC 2023 season. The roster now comprises Rolen “skem” Ong, Joshua “Kokz” Maraño, Nikko “Force” Bilocura, Ravdan “NARMAN” Narmandakh, and Roger “Roddgeee” Tan.

Geek Fam rebrands its new Dota 2 roster to Geek Slate
Slate is the esports arm of Avium, a company recently cofounded by Yeo, which raised a US$2 million pre-seed investment in August last year.
At the front and center of their new partnership is Geek Fam’s Dota 2 roster, a team that will be participating in the upcoming DPC SEA Tour 1 Division I. Geek Slate will be competing for US$205,000, 690 DPC points, and a chance to qualify for the first Dota 2 Major of the DPC 2023 season.
“Qualifying for an International has always been a personal dream for me, when I sat down with Keat, founder of Geek Fam, it brought me back to the days of when I first started EVOS, the passion, the drive, it was all there. I can’t wait to retake this journey,” said Yeo.
Other than its Dota 2 squad, Geek Fam is expected to announce more teams that will use the Geek Slate name.
Slate and Geek Fam also floated the possibility of rebranding their MPL Indonesia and PMPL Malaysia teams later down the line, according to their official press release shared with ONE Esports.
Geek Fam has esports teams competing in PUBG Mobile, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Free Fire, spanning multiple SEA countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
