One of the best Fortnite players in the world, Turner “Tfue” Tenney has decided that he will stop participating in Fortnite tournaments.
The news came as a surprise to viewers on his stream, given Tfue’s success in the nascent Fortnite esports scene. He’s won US$492,000 so far, and is the second-highest Fortnite earner, but that’s expected to change if other players start winning tournaments given the massive prize pool that Epic is pumping into esports.
The streamer said on Twitch that he’s quitting because he’s like not to qualify and he doesn’t “need the money anyway.”
Another reason Tfue could be quitting may be due to health issues with his neck. The streamer had mentioned during a livestream that even the doctor “didn’t know what is” wrong with his neck.
Competitive players have also been unhappy with Fortnite’s constant meta changes, and this could have also played a role in Tfue’s decision to stop participating in tournaments.
Tfue had failed to place in week one of the Fortnite World Cup Online Open, only managing a 137th spot. With 9 more weeks to go, it’ll be interesting to see how he performs and if he does eventually qualify for the Fortnite World Cup.
Week two of the Fortnite World Cup Online Open will take place on April 20-21 and will be a duos tournament.
