Fortnite: Battle Royale developer Epic Games will be testing prize payment systems for the upcoming Fortnite World Cup with the new Scallywag Duos Cup event, which features a US$100,000 prize pool.
The Scallywag Duos Cup came with the recent v8.10 update, and will run from March 16 to 17. The event’s US$100,000 prize pool will be distributed across all server regions.
To participate in the Scallywag Duos Cup, players must first be in the Top 3% globally of either the Solo or Duo Gauntlet Test Event as of 12 AM ET on March 16th.
The Solo and Duo Gauntlet Test Events came with last week’s v8.01 update, and were hinted as possible formats for the Fortnite World Cup later this year.
The Scallywag Duos Cup will feature two rounds of competition, with the first being open to all eligible players. The top 3,000 players will then move on to the next round of the event.
Epic said that they will be releasing the official rules and details for the Scallywag Duos Cup later this week.
With the Fortnite World Cup set to kick off in July, it is expected that Epic has been busy preparing for its game’s marquee esports event. Whether the developer’s preparations will pay off in four months time remains to be seen.
