Glasgow-based Celtic Football Club is scoring some goals for its newly formed esports division.
The club will be partnering gaming chair brand GT Omega Racing for a limited edition Celtic-branded seat that will be sold to the general public. It’s not the first time a gaming chair company is working with the football industry — Singapore-based Secretlab recently announced a partnership with English soccer star Dele Alli.
Besides the gaming chair partnership, Celtic FC is one of the six clubs currently in the roster of competitors for the inaugural season of eFootball.Pro, a competition hosted by Konami and FC Barcelona player Gerard Piqué played on Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. The club has already secured a spot for the finals that will be played in May.
Lastly, the team up also makes sense for GT Omega Racing, since it’s also based in Glasgow and focuses on gaming chairs, racing simulator cockpits and accessories aimed at the racing genre. The move would let it reach newer audiences as well.
GT Omega Racing currently partners other esports teams, specifically the NBA 2K League team Magic Gaming, Belgian esport organization Epsilon Esports, esports TV channel GINX Esports TV, as well as the gaming entertainment collective Sidemen.
“It means a great deal to be supporting a team local to us,” said Brian Copeland, GT Omega Racing’s marketing coordinator.
Copeland added that he looked forward to seeing everyone involved with Celtic FC Esports are seated “comfortably”.
Celtic FC on the other hand, was excited about the partnership and that it was “nothing short of a dream come true,” said Miguel Pacheco, Celtic FC’s international business development manager.
