While 2020 may have been a mixed bag so far, it hasn’t put a damper on SEGA’s 60th anniversary festivities. To commemorate this major milestone, the video game developer and publisher has launched a new interactive microsite.
The commemorative microsite is loaded with features that deliver on the nostalgia. Site visitors will be treated to something akin to a digital museum designed with an arcade machine aesthetic. Milestones throughout the company’s history are showcased in a beautifully presented virtual timeline.
Available in both English and Japanese languages, the microsite introduces the “Go SEGA” campaign with a message from Haruki Satomi, Chairman of SEGA Holdings.
“The SEGA Group is planning a variety of special contents (sic) for this 60th anniversary,” Satumi wrote. “Through these special contents, we will deliver the passion of the SEGA Group to the entire world.”
A message board will go live on April 21 to collect messages from SEGA fans. Submissions will be published starting June 3.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, SEGA has opted to not announce any celebratory events related to its anniversary at the time of writing.

Another key part of SEGA’s 60th anniversary celebration is the introduction of a new character, Sega Shiro, a comically passionate SEGA fan.
While the company is playing up the mystery behind the new character, it appears that the spirited young man is going to be the company’s new poster boy moving forward.
Sega Shiro connects to SEGA history in an interesting way. The character is portrayed by Maito Fujioka, son of Hiroshi Fujioka — who played fictional character Segata Sanshiro to promote the SEGA Saturn back in the 1990s.
There will likely be more celebratory content from SEGA in the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, fans, games, and the general public can check out the new website first.
