Microsoft is no longer offering a massive discount for first-time users of its video game subscription service.
Xbox Game Pass, which offered a US$1 trial for one month, is not available any more. Microsoft will reportedly seek out different avenues for promotion, according to Kari Perez, head of global communications at Xbox, in a statement to The Verge.
“We have stopped our previous introductory offer for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass and are evaluating different marketing promotions for new members in the future,” Perez said.

Will Xbox Game Pass continue to dominate?
In a world where subscription streaming services have taken over the media landscape, the Xbox Game Pass has proved to be a leader for video games. Microsoft’s streaming service has 25 million subscribers as of January 2022, according to Statista.
Microsoft has continued to explore ways to increase Game Pass’ subscriber base. A Friends and Family plan, now available in eight countries, allows up to five people to share their Xbox Game Pass Ultimate benefits.
Without the US$1 trial, players still can jump into the service for US$9.99 for the PC or console Game Pass, while the Ultimate version for US$14.99 allows games to be played across both platforms.
