The popularity of miHoYo’s open-world role-playing game Genshin Impact continues to grow.
Just a year since it was released, the game hit several milestones including earning billions of dollars through its mobile fanbase alone.
Aside from their record-breaking revenue, Genshin Impact also made waves on social media every time the developers announced new playable characters.
Genshin Impact tops the charts for most talked-about game on Twitter last year
Genshin Impact dominated the Twitterverse in 2021. The game took the top spot when it comes to tweets, beating other established, triple-A games such as Final Fantasy and Animal Crossing according to a blog post released by Twitter.
The data came from Twitter’s own analytics, which surveyed records from January 1 to December 15, 2021.
MiHoYo’s regular updates and announcements on new releases, locations, events, and even character birthday celebrations took the social media platform by storm. Zhongli, Klee, and the Raiden Shogun are just some of the characters that made it to Twitter’s trending tab.

Aside from Genshin, other gacha games also made it to the list such as Ensemble Stars!, Fate/Grand Order, and Project Sekai.

While previous games only had a breakthrough for about a year, it looks like Genshin Impact will stick with fans for a long, long time.
