Updated on March 8, 2:37 p.m. (GMT+8): We would like to issue a correction regarding game three of the Winter Finals, where we initially wrote that G2 went all-in on Elyoya’s Wukong. A closer look at the clip showed G2 killed Hylissang’s Yuumi and Chasy’s Jayce first. We regret the error.

G2 Esports dominated the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) Winter 2023 playoffs with a 3-0 sweep over MAD Lions in the final.

Caps led the team’s first two games to victory on Cassiopeia and surprise mid lane pick, Kled.

His Cassiopeia, in particular, dealt an astounding 12,350 magic damage where he finished with a near-perfect KDA in game one, based on stats from gol.gg.

G2 Esports proves they’re the best team in Europe after winning LEC Winter 2023

In game three, MAD tried to turn the situation around with a crucial Baron Nashor steal from Javier “Elyoya” Prades Batalla in the late game at the 34-minute mark.

With three mountain dragons and a slight 1,400 gold deficit, it seemed hopeful for MAD for a second — before G2 went all-in on Kim “Chasy” Dong-hyeon’s Jayce, who unfortunately had Zdravets Iliev “Hylissang” Galabov’s Yuumi on his back.

Claiming two lives, G2 withheld the game’s tempo. Five minutes later when both Mountain Dragon soul and Baron were up for grabs, they found an opening near the river and tore through MAD’s formation for a hard-fought game three victory to claim their first LEC Winter championship title.

With the win, G2 takes home over US$42,000 and 120 Championship Points to qualify for the LEC Season Finals. They are also qualified LEC’s second seed at MSI 2023, which is set to take place in May at Copper Box Arena in London in the United Kingdom.

Not only did G2 Esports claim the first-ever Winter 2023 championship trophy and their 10th LEC title overall, but they are also the first team to qualify for this year’s Mid-Season Invitational.

The team’s newcomers, bot laner Steven “Hans Sama” Liv and jungler Martin “Yike” Sundelin set a few personal achievements as well.

Hans Sama bagged his first LEC title while rookie player Yike became a Winter champion during his first year in the EMEA league. Mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther had also secured his eighth LEC championship title with the win.

Additionally, this football anime might have just been the key to G2’s Winter 2023 victory.
