Trust G2 Esports to make a splash during the opening LEC Summer 2022 weekend. After they defeated Astralis on day one, they went up against rivals Rogue on day two and pulled out a shocking draft.
Rogue finished in first place during the LEC Spring 2022 regular season, and second in the playoffs after G2 clawed their way through the lower bracket to sweep them 3-0 in the grand final to represent the region at MSI.
Reenacting their MSI 2022 Yasuo wombo combo win against T1 where they shattered the LCK champion’s 26-match win streak, G2 Esports were at it again with a Diana, Swain, and Yone combo that provided multiple knock-ups for Yasuo.
This comes with a warning, however: do not try this at home. Under no circumstances should you attempt to play this in ranked unless you’re Challenger on the Korean ladder—or risk getting flamed by teammates, or worse, lose Elo.

G2 Esports risk it all on brothers Yasuo and Yone in opening LEC Summer 2022 weekend
G2 Esports first picked scaling AD carry Senna, a staple in the post-patch 12.10 Durability Update meta. Rogue likewise responded with strong picks, Ornn and jungle Wukong.
Then, out of nowhere, G2 locked in reworked Swain and Yone, both of whom could be flexed mid, top, or bot. Yone was buffed on patch 12.2 and 12.7, and his Spirit Cleave (W) does damage based off the target’s maximum health, while Soul Unbound (E) deals true damage to marked champions, making him viable against tanky champions thriving in the current meta.
As if that wasn’t spicy enough, G2 locked in Yasuo and Diana in the second draft phase. Even though the casters were convinced that G2 were going to pair Yasuo and Senna at bot, Rasmus “caPs” Borregaard Winther ended up taking his signature champion to the mid lane.
The thing is, these champions need items and time to scale, so while fans were excited to see the lineup in action, team fights didn’t kick off until later.
In the early game, both squads were even in gold as Rogue took down the turret and two dragons at bot, while G2 focused on getting Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik’s top lane Yone ahead.
During the mid-game 17-minutes in, G2 only had one completed core item on their carries–Blade of the Ruined King on Yone and Yasuo. So while they managed to land a full knock-up combo on Markos “Comp” Stamkopoulos’ Aphelios while fighting for the third dragon, he could still Flash out with one-quarter HP to delay the team fight in Rogue’s favor.
Six minutes later, Rogue was at Soul Point, and G2 Esports were, of course, keen to contest the dragon. It was a different story now, however, as their carries had two completed items.
Brokenblade’s Yone was sitting on Immortal Shieldbow on top of Blade of the Ruined King. Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski’s Diana added Zhonya’s Hourglass to his Mythic item, Hextech Protobelt-01, while Victor “Flakked” Lirola Tortosa’s support AP Swain was ready with Rylai’s Crystal Scepter and Imperial Mandate.
The moment Comp suspended Aphelios in animation while casting his ultimate, Jankos Flashed in with Moonfall, triggering Yasuo’s Last Breath. This time, the AD carry wasn’t so lucky, with three members of G2 ensuring his death.
Acing Rogue, G2 Esports went on to deny the fourth dragon and the Baron, and started to run away with the game with their now trademarked Yasuo wombo combo.
By 26 minutes, every single member had gold bounties and a positive KDA, led by Brokenblade’s Yone and caPs’ Yasuo who contributed 22 percent total damage each.
G2 went on to defeat XL on day three, and closed the LEC Summer 2022 opening weekend with a perfect 3-0 record, taking first place in the standings. Astralis, EXCEL, MAD Lions, Fnatic, and Team Vitality are tied in second place with a 2-1 match record.
