LPL Summer 2022 playoffs: Schedule, results, where to watch

The biggest League of Legends professional league in the world has concluded its regular season. Out of 17 teams, the top 10 are now headed into the LPL Summer 2022 playoffs.

After 10 weeks of competition with matches happening every single day of the week, China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL) playoffs will determine the top four teams that will represent the region at Worlds 2022.

The top two teams from the regular season, JD Gaming and Top Esports, have been given a bye to Round 4, where they await their opponents.

Edward Gaming, the reigning 2021 World Champions, and Royal Never Give Up, this year’s MSI 2022 champions, start their journey in Rounds 2 and 3 respectively. However, there will be no second chances for them.

What is the LPL Summer 2022 playoffs?

The 2022 LPL Summer playoffs will see the top 10 performing teams that qualified from the regular season battle it out for the second and last LPL title of the year, as well as Worlds 2022 qualification.

LPL Spring 2022 was won by Royal Never Give Up, who not only represented the region at MSI 2022, but also won their third MSI title.

Format of the LPL Summer 2022 playoffs

The first three rounds of the LPL Summer 2022 playoffs adopts a King of the Hill format.

Based on their position in the regular season, teams will face off against each other on opposite sides of the bracket. The 8th and 9th placed teams will go up against each other on one side, while the 7th and 10th placed teams will be on the other.

Teams that finished in sixth place and above are given byes to succeeding rounds.

From Round 4 onward, the playoffs switch to a double-elimination format, which gives the top four teams two chances to make it to the grand final.

All matches are played in best-of-fives.
