Full roster of every team competing in LEC Winter Split 2023

League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) fans have a lot to look forward to next year, especially with three competitive splits and the launch of the LEC Winter Split 2023.

The LEC Winter Split 2023 is one of the biggest changes in the EMEA league’s format. It is the newest split in the LEC, and will run from January 21, 2023 until the end of February.

Two teams will debut during this split, namely Team Heretics and KOI (previously Rogue).

Full roster of every team competing in LEC Winter Split 2023

Astralis

Astralis signed two new players to its LEC Winter Split 2023 roster, featuring top laner Finn “Finn” Wiestål and Doğukan “113” Balcı.

Finn previously played for Excel Esports and helped the team qualify for both the Spring and Summer 2022 playoffs.

Coming in from EU Masters is rookie jungler 113, who claimed the EM 2022 Spring Main Event championship together with Karmine Corp.

“With the addition of 113 and Finn, we feel we have a very interesting mixture of pure skill, experience, and immense talent,” Director of Sports Kasper Hvidt said in an official statement. “We firmly believe that both of these players will be central pieces.”

Excel Esports

Excel Esports has one goal for 2023, and that is to achieve a top-three finish during the regular season with their brand new roster.

Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu has brought his top lane expertise to Excel, after claiming his first LEC championship title in Summer 2022 with Rogue (later renamed KOI).

He reunites with his former Splyce teammate and fellow Romanian player, Andrei “Xerxe” Dragomir.

Fans should also pay close attention to their new mid laner, Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié, who aspires to become the next Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, one of the most renowned players in the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK).

Fnatic

Swedish bot laner Martin “Rekkles” Larsson is back in Fnatic after playing for La Ligue Française (LFL) team Karmine Corp in 2022. Rekkles kicked off his career in Fnatic in 2012 and has been considered a core member of the organization’s LoL roster ever since, claiming six LEC championship titles and four MVP titles across splits.

He will be teaming up with rookie support Rúben “Rhuckz” Barbosa in the bot lane. Rhuckz previously played for Fnatic’s academy team, Fnatic TQ. He showed a promising performance during Worlds 2022 when he played as a substitute support player for the main roster after the team’s former bot lane tandem, Elias “Upset” Lipp and Zdravets Iliev “Hylissang” Galabov, tested positive for COVID-19.

Rekkles is reunited with his former teammate, top laner Martin “Wunder” Hansen. The two once played together in 2020 in G2 Esports. Rekkles and Wunder were eventually benched and traded, with the former joining Karmine Corp while Wunder signed with Fnatic.

G2 Esports

G2 Esports goes through a robust roster shuffle with a familiar face back in the mix.

Support player Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle returns to the team after a year with Excel Esports. He reunites with star mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther.

Steven “Hans sama” Liv will be joining Mikyx in the bot lane. The French AD carry spent the 2022 season as part of LCS’ Team Liquid.

Following the departure of Marcin “Jankos” Jankoswki, the organization signed Martin “Yike” Sundelin as their new starting jungler.

KOI

KOI is Rogue’s rebrand following their “strategic alliance”.

KOI’s new top laner, Mathias “Szygenda” Jensen, has some big shoes to fill following the departure of LEC Summer 2022 champion, Odoamne.

He reunites with his former teammates from AGO ROGUE and Team Vitality, support Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus, and bot laner Markos “Comp” Stamkopoulos.

The new LEC team retained the rest of its player roster and is looking into replicating the success of its 2022 roster that won the LEC Summer 2022 Playoffs and placed fifth to eighth at Worlds 2022.

MAD Lions

MAD Lions’ player lineup features a talented pair in the bot lane with Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság and Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov.

Carzzy was one of the first members of the MAD Lions roster after it rebranded from Splyce in 2019, going on to win the LEC Spring and Summer championship titles in 2019.

Teaming up with Carzzy in the bot lane is Hylissang, Fnatic’s former support player. The Bulgarian player is known as one of the best supports in the region with an extremely aggressive playstyle.

SK Gaming

SK Gaming has parted ways with all of its players except for its mid laner, Daniel “Sertuss” Gamani, for the LEC Winter Split 2023. Sertuss will play alongside new teammates — top laner Joel “Irrelevant” Miro Scharoll, jungler Mark “Markoon” van Woensel, bot laner Thomas “Exakick” Foucou, and support Mads “Doss” Schwartz.

Irrelevant, Sertuss, Exakick, and Doss were all homegrown talents from the La Ligue Française (LFL).

Irrelevant was previously Misfits Gaming’s top laner, while Exakick and Doss both played for LFL team, LDLC OL. The bot lane duo were back-to-back LFL Spring and Summer 2022 champions. Exakick will make his LEC debut this upcoming split.

Former Excel player Markoon will be the team’s jungler and will take over Erberk “Gilius” Demir’s position. Gilius is still under contract with SK Gaming until November 2023, but will not play in the Winter Split.

“After kicking (SK Gaming) out of playoffs two splits in a row, it’s now time to help them get there,” Markoon tweeted.

SK Gaming placed eighth in both LEC Spring and Summer 2022 splits, missing out on playoffs.

Team BDS

Team BDS’ player lineup features a French triple threat of top laner Adam “Adam” Maanane, jungler Théo “Sheo” Borile, and mid laner Ilias “nuc” Bizriken. Adam and Sheo came from Team BDS Academy while nuc last played for Schalke 04 in 2021.

The roster change also marks the reunion of Adam and nuc, who were teammates on LFL’s Kameto Corp back in 2020. In his player video, Adam said that they’re friends and had “good links” during their time at the LFL.

Team BDS also promoted Academy bot laner Juš “Crownie” Marušič. While he spent 2022 in the developmental league, he’s already clocked in a few years in the LEC as part of SK Gaming and Team Vitality.

To assist Crownie in the bot lane, Team BDS has signed former Team Vitality support Labros “Labrov” Papoutsakis. The two previously played together under the Team Vitality banner during 2021.

Team Heretics

Spain-based Team Heretics is ready to debut in the LEC, and their roster looks very promising.

Team Heretics bought Misfits Gaming’s LEC slot earlier this year, after the latter departed the league due to a shift in the organization’s strategy.

Team Heretics’ starting roster features a mix of rookie and seasoned players, including former G2 Esports jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and League of Legends Japan League (LJL) star Shunsuke “Evi” Murase.

Jankos is one of the most distinguished junglers in the LEC with back-to-back MVP awards across LEC Summer 2019 and LEC Spring 2020, winning a stunning five LEC championships with juggernauts G2 Esports.

Another player to look out for in Team Heretics is top laner Evi, the first Japanese pro to ever play in the LEC. Evi was a key player in DetonatioN FocusMe’s numerous regular season championships in the LJL, and all eyes will be watching to see if he can find the same impact in Europe.

Team Vitality

Team Vitality brings in a talented quartet around star mid laner Luka “Perkz” Perković.

The team signed Korean top laner Kyeong “Photon” Gyu-tae from T1 Challengers. Just recently, he won the 2022 Esports Championships East Asia with Team South Korea.

LEC veterans Matúš “Neon” Jakubčík and Norman “Kaiser” Kaiser will take over the bot lane. Kaiser made waves as the prominent support of MAD Lions and secured back-to-back Worlds appearances in the last three years.

2022 Summer substitute Zhou “Bo” Yang-Bo has been promoted to the starting jungler position.
