The last update of the year, League of Legends patch 11.24 further prepares the game for the upcoming 2022 preseason.
Even though there were many changes, most involved minor tweaks and nerfs. Popular, widely-used items like Axiom Arc, Crown of the Shattered Queen, and Frostfire Gauntlet were nerfed. One mage item however, received a buff in League of Legends patch 11.24.
Previously, patch 11.23 changed up the recipe of Archangel’s Staff to comprise Tear of the Goddess, Kindlegem, and Blasting Wand, replacing the previous Amplifying Tome and Needlessly Large Rod. Not only is there the added HP component, its unique passive now also grants ability haste which is great for mages who once relied on this item in the seasons before.

Huge buff to Archangel’s Staff highlights League of Legends patch 11.24
Buff to Archangel’s Staff
- Combine cost reduced from 950 gold to 550 gold (total cost equally reduced)
“Wow 400 dollars cheaper!” my Asian self reacted.
The reduced 400 gold means that specific mages who rely on this item will come online earlier in the game. Each minion wave grants anywhere between 60 to over 100 gold depending on game time, so you can imagine how much faster putting together this recipe will be.
Mages fond of this item in the current meta are Anivia, Ryze, Orianna, Kassadin, and Ziggs. According to U.GG, Kassadin in particular, currently holds a high 52.51% win rate and 7.8% pick rate on patch 11.23, so expect these numbers to increase on League of Legends patch 11.24. Anivia too, has a high win rate of 52.62% with a 3.0% pick rate.
Of course, to maximize the item, you’ll still need to fulfil the Seraph’s Embrace transformation requirements, but hey, now you can put the extra gold somewhere else.
