At Worlds 2021 last year, Edward Gaming took back the crown for the LPL, defeating Worlds 2020 winners DWG KIA 3-2 in the final.
They are the third LPL team to lift the world championship trophy after Invictus Gaming in 2018, and FunPlus Phoenix in 2019.
This year, the LPL will get their chance to defend the trophy, but only four teams can qualify, which will be determined in the LPL Summer 2022 playoffs and regional qualifiers.
The winner of the LPL Summer 2022 playoffs automatically qualifies as first seed, while the rest will receive championship points that count toward seeding.

Full list of teams that have qualified for LPL Summer 2022 playoffs
Out of the 17 franchised esports organizations competing in the LPL Summer 2022 split, only the top 10 qualify for playoffs. Their placement will affect which round they are seeded into.
The playoffs will follow the same king of the hill format in Phase 1, followed by a double elimination format in Phase 2 that the league adopted in 2021.

The top three LPL teams that qualify for Worlds 2022 will begin their journey in the group stage, while the LPL’s fourth seed will start from the Play-Ins stage.
