League of Legends patch 12.13 was released just yesterday, but even before the dust could settle, Riot Games’ balance and design team rolled out nerfs to hotfix the three most buffed champions: Master Yi, Gwen, and reworked Sivir.

Gwen’s healing from her passive, Thousand Cuts, has been reduced to 50% of damage dealt. Just three patches ago in 12.10, this ability’s healing peaked at 70% of damage dealt, making her a premier pick in the top lane, especially in the LPL. The cooldown of her ultimate has also been increased in this mid-patch update, after its base damage per needle was just buffed.

Master Yi’s improved Alpha Strike was given a slightly longer cooldown, while Sivir’s Boomerang Blade base damage was nerfed by 10 at all levels. At the same time, Ricochet’s mana cost will now scale according to level instead of a flat 60.

On the topic of Master Yi, lead designer Matt “Riot Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison explained on Twitter that the game developers prefer to optimize his performance at higher levels of play in the future rather than balance and shift his power right now, admitting that they did “overshoot” in this area.

Yi currently holds a 53.71% win rate at Platinum rank and above, according to U.GG. At Gold, it is even higher at 56.22%, topping the solo queue charts.

For Gwen and Sivir, Riot Phroxzon claims that the changes were “hard to predict,” and they’re now following up accordingly “after their strong launches.” At high Elo, Sivir boasts a positive 53.44% win rate — the highest among all bot lane AD carries — after sitting out of the meta for years, while Gwen is at 51.23%.
