The final match in Week 6 of China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL) saw Victory Five, who held a perfect 9-0 record, face off against Weibo Gaming.

It was a highly anticipated affair, with former Invictus Gaming 2018 World Champions mid laner Song “Rookie” Eui-jin and top laner Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok meeting on opposite sides of the Rift.

Both teams were neck and neck in game one, but TheShy’s Jax scaled well into the late game and was strong enough to 1v3, giving Weibo Gaming the lead in the best-of-three series. In game two, Victory Five struck back by focusing their resources at bot, with AD carry Ying “Photic” Qi-Shen on Aphelios leading the charge.

In the deciding game three, Weibo Gaming prioritized Aphelios for Tang “huanfeng” Huan-Fen, picking it in the first iteration on red side, denying Photic a repeat performance. The team also moved TheShy away from solo lane split push carries, and instead, blind picked Gnar, a safe and flexible option — but that didn’t stop him from putting on another monstrous performance.

WBG secured the first two dragons and the tower at bot, opening up and gaining control of that side of the map. As mid game ensued, Victory Five top laner Lee “Rich” Jae-won rotated to bot lane to catch the wave at the second inner turret while his duo swapped to mid.

Meanwhile, TheShy continued pushing top, and was met by Rookie’s Azir. Since TheShy had shoved the minion wave all the way to V5’s tower, Hung “Karsa”Hao-Hsuan saw an opportunity to gank him.

Rookie opened by pulling off the perfect Azir shuffle, flashing in for a backwards Emperor’s Divide that shoved Gnar into tower range. TheShy responded by Hopping over the wall, then kited back all the way through the alcove while consuming the last charge of refillable potion.

By the time he reached the edge of the bush closest to his tower with only a sliver of health remaining, his Rage bar was full, and he transformed into Mega Gnar.

Now, it was Rookie and Karsa’s turn to disengage from the angry Yordle. Since Rookie’s Azir was low on mana and without flash, TheShy targeted him first, slamming him into the wall.

Back in mini Gnar form, he chased down Karsa, applying multiple auto attacks under the tower for the double kill in the 2v1 trade.

From a 6,000 gold lead, Weibo Gaming maintained control over the dragon, secured Cloud Soul, and pressured objectives across the map, stretching their lead to more than 10,000 in the late game. After they got hold of the Elder Dragon buff 31-minutes in, they went on to take an uncontested Baron Buff before annihilating Victory Five’s Nexus.

Perfect no more, Victory Five are now 9-1 in the standings. Top Esports and JD Gaming share the same match score, but are in second and third place respectively due to their overall game record. Weibo Gaming are currently in 7th place with a 6-4 series record.
