PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG) Mobile, while still making waves around the world and moreso in India, can now include Team Fnatic on its growing roster of teams.
The global esports team jumped into PUBG Mobile after the acquisition of one of India’s top PUBG Mobile teams — XSpark. The move, which saw Mohammaed “Owais” Lakhani, Tanmay “Sc0utOP” Singh, Harpreet “Ronak” Singh”, Paritosh Sharma, and Ujwal “Inyodream” Chaudhari joining the Fnatic stable, has achieved two objectives:
- Opening the way for Fnatic to get into India’s esports scene
- Setting the goal of taking the PUBG Mobile championship by 2020
- PUBG Mobile hands out 10-year bans to another 2,700 players
- Tencent reveals PUBG Mobile 2020 World League as its latest global esports event
Fnatic Chief Gaming officer, Patrik Sattermon, told AFK Gaming that it had been Fnatic’s long-time dream to jump into the India’s esports.
“It’s also been one of our main goals. We’ve been exploring the market as well as meeting with players, organizations, and game developers to understand how the market is moving and where the opportunities lie,” said Sattermon.
As the acquisition is very recent, Fnatic will be focused on driving the branding for the new team. Longer term considerations, like building a gaming facility for the team to train and introducing merchandising and content for the team, are in the pipeline too. It’s doing all this to ensure fans can get the full Fnatic experience.
With all these plans in mind, there is no slowing down for the new Fnatic team. In fact, they will be competing at the upcoming PUBG Mobile Club Open South Asia — Fall Split semi-finals.
