Combo Breaker 2020 has officially been canceled due to concerns over the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Tournament organizers Ricky “The Hadou” Thiher made the announcement and added that his team was devastated by the news. They are currently in the process of issuing refunds for all competitors and community pass registrants.

Once refunds have been processed, Combo Breaker will still mail all tournament registrants a Combo Breaker Badge; No Coast, No Kings Lanyard; a 50-page commemorative magazine; and a Combo Breaker pin.

Attendees who have secured rooms at the Schaumburg Renaissance Marriott (Combo Breaker 2020’s host hotel), said rooms have been automatically transferred for use at Combo Breaker 2021, according to Thiher.

For those who cannot attend the event next year, they can still have their deposits returned. Travel plans, on the other hand, can’t be refunded by the team. As such, Combo Breaker 2020 attendees will have to take care of rescheduling or cancellations themselves.

Those looking to support Combo Breaker can purchase the event’s merchandise which was already in production. Proceeds from merchandise sales will help Combo Breaker recoup development costs.

Thiher also stated that they’re working with videographer Hold Back to Block, FGC streamer Team Spooky, and tournament host Stephen “Sajam” Lyon to “create a 3-day retrospective broadcast featuring marquee matches, special moments, and stories from past attendees covering Combo Breaker’s 5-year history.”

Despite their 2020 event canceled, Thiher and his team have stated that they’re “committed to bringing more Combo Breaker events to fans in the future.”
