Professional Street Fighter V player Kun “Xian” Ho has kept his Capcom Cup attendance streak alive, as he won the Capcom Pro Tour East Asia 2 online qualifier to secure a spot in the tournament for the seventh-straight year.

In forging his path, Xian got his revenge against the player that eliminated him from the first CPT East Asia qualifier, Gavrel “Bravery” Saw. Xian defeated the 19 year-old prodigy in an intense grand final set that nearly went the full distance.

The CPT East Asia 2 online event was the final Capcom Cup 2020 qualifier for Southeast Asia, so the stakes were high for Xian. But the EVO 2013 champion showed why he was the clear favorite of the event by making it into the grand final on the winners’ side. Xian opted to use Seth yet again, stating that he has better matchups compared to Ibuki.

Bravery also blazed through the winner’s side, but was swept by Xian 0-3 in the winners’ final match. The young SFV prodigy, however, battled his way to make it into the grand final to set up a rematch against Xian.

At the start of the match, Xian was able to edge out Bravery by maximizing the potential of Seth’s V-Trigger II, which he used to create mixup opportunities that won him the first game.

Bravery won the following game after Xian missed a combo opportunity that could have earned him the round. Bravery then started to play more aggressively, using more Cannon Spikes and Spiral Arrows to open up Xian.

With his back against the wall after going down 2-1, Bravery clutched out the next two games, punishing Xian’s whiffs and forward pressure with light attacks that led to full combos. He controlled the stage by trapping Xian in the corner and forced the bracket reset.

After the reset, Xian consequently began to figure out Bravery’s offensive playstyle, and used more dragon punches to counter Cammy’s aerial assault.

With his air-game neutralized, Bravery missed his dive kick inputs, which cost him heavily as Xian was able to turn the tables and trap him in the corner, putting him in a 0-2 deficit.

But right when Xian thought he was about to win his third game, Bravery pulled off an insane comeback by going on an all-out assault that extended the match.

After reaching match point, Xian pulled off his own unbelievable comeback, landing a V-Trigger II mixup that ended with a Critical Art finish.

By defeating Bravery, Xian stopped the ongoing trend of top contenders being outshined by their training partners in Capcom Cup 2020 qualifier events. Nevertheless, Xian had high praise for 19-year-old Bravery, who he says is going to be a force to be reckoned with once he develops his game.

With his CPT East Asia 2 online qualifier win, Xian is going to be attending the Capcom Cup for the seventh time, having started his streak when the tournament was first hosted in 2014. Xian was the runner-up in Capcom Cup 2014 after losing to Yusuke “Momochi” Momochi. In the following year, Xian finished in third place behind Ryota “Kazunoko” Inoue and Daigo Umehara.

Xian now joins Amjad “AngryBird” Alshalabi, Arman “Phenom” Hanjani, Yoryi “DR Mandrake” Bueno, Niel “SKZ” Chong, Gonzalo “Pikoro” Buleje, Houmaid “Takamura” Rabie, Daigo “The Beast” Umehara, Christopher “Caba” Rodriguez, Alan “Nephew” Sun, Bryant “Smug” Huggins, and reigning Capcom Cup champion Derek “iDom” Ruffin as competitors for Capcom Cup 2020.
