Despite only having 124 entrants at this year’s Game Over event held in the Dominican Republic, the talent pool was still stacked with great Street Fighter V players.
Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi’s grand finals performance is already an amazing highlight by itself, but the whole event was filled with eye-catching moments.
Smug vs Itabashi Zangief (Top 16)
Bryant “Smug” Huggin pulled off the most shocking comeback of the tournament when he ran through Hiromiki “Itabashi Zangief” Kumada’s Abigail.
Right at the start of the round, Itabashi opened up with a flurry of attacks that stunned Punk in the corner. But Smug was able to rally back, and push Abigail all the way to the opposite corner where he basically did a perfect round comeback.
Sako vs Oil King (Top 8)
Naoto “Sako” Sako’s best-of-three match against Li-Wei “Oil King” Lin might have been the best set of the tournament.
Sako’s underrated Kage was able to go toe-to-toe with Oil King’s top-tier Rashiid. Sako was even able to expose Oil King’s unfamiliarity of the matchup when he baited him with a jump-in that lead into a high damage combo. Then Sako was able to read Oil King’s wake up option, and landed a godly air-fireball.
The final round of the set was a complete nail-bitter. With both players being on match point, Sako was able to clutch it out and land an EX-Dragon Punch, which led into a wake-up setup he capitalized on.
Itabashi Zangief vs Reygord (Pools)
Itabashi showed no mercy to the local competitors. He landed four consecutive Spinning Piledrivers which led into a perfect round. Someone should’ve thrown in the towel early.
Fuudo vs Doomsnake (Pools)
Never accept a trade with Keita “Fuudo” Ai. This is what Bruno “DoomSnake” Grotta
Sako vs FenixRD (Pools)
Of course, no highlight round-up is complete without a Menat V-Trigger combo finished with a Critical Art by Sako. No mercy from the Street Fighter God.
Tokido vs Menard (Pools)
Make sure to lower your audio before watching this highlight because Tokido’s Akuma taunt-reset combo had the commentators going insane.
