Japan’s Asia Premier was the penultimate Capcom Pro Tour Super Premier event of the year before this year’s Capcom Cup. With 1,000 CPT points up for grabs, all of the best players from around the world traveled to Tokyo to compete.

The entire tournament was stacked, with 1,018 total competitors, including all of the CPT global leaderboard top five. Here are some of the best highlights from the weekend.

Punk vs Pecha (Pools)

In this matchup from Pools, Victor “Punk” Woodley was left with no health left but activated Karin’s V-Trigger and successfully evaded Ryu’s V-Reversal. A few moments after, Punk landed a clutch Critical Art to pull off the comeback.

Yangmian vs NL (Pools)

This match between ChaoZhou “Yang Mian” Huang and Sim “NL” Gun went down to the wire, with the score tied 1-1 and both players low on life. NL went for a mid-range zoning fireball but Yang Mian read it perfectly, and dashed through it, punishing with a huge combo to end the match.

Powell vs Punk (Pools)

In this match from Pools, Powell, a high-level Japanese player who generally only competes in the Asian region, faced off against Punk, one of the best players in the world. Powell shocked everyone by taking the first set against Punk.

Punk eventually won the match, but Powell proved that he is a formidable opponent and one of the best Cammy players in the world.

Nuckle Du vs Chris Wong (Pools)

Du “Nuckle Du” Dang had one of the best comebacks of the tournament, hitting Chris Wong’s Ibuki with three consecutive high-damage combos with no health remaining.

ZJZ vs Daigo (Pools)

There was another amazing comeback in this match between Chia-Chen “ZJZ” Tseng and Daigo Umehara. ZJZ is known as a Menat player, but made the switch to Karin and fought his way out of the corner showcasing Karin’s incredible damage to complete the comeback.

Angry Bird vs Tokido (Pools)

Amjad “Angry Bird” Alshalabi got a huge upset win over Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi early in the tournament. With the score tied and both players low on life, Angry Bird managed to land a cross-up air-attack that hit Tokido but caused a scramble situation that worked out in his favor.

Fujimura vs Big Bird (Top 16)

One of the best matches of the tournament came when Fujimura “Fujimura” Atsushi took on Adel “Big Bird” Anouche.

Fujimura won the first set thanks to his insane reactions with a counter-hit into Critical Art.

Fujimura then clutched out a nail-bitter of a round against Big Bird, which forced a final round.

The last round did not disappoint, as Big Bird landed his own sick mix-up with the whirlwind projectile and advanced to the Top 8.

Mago vs Big Bird (Top 16)

During the later stages of the tournament, Big Bird was hit with a bad case of déjà vu when he faced Kenryu “Mago” Hayashi. On the very last round of the match, Big Bird found himself in the exact same sequence that knocked him out of Evo 2019.

Momochi vs Angry Bird (Top 16)

Yusuke “Momochi” Momochi was unstoppable throughout the entire tournament. After a hard knockdown on Angry Bird, Momochi knew his opponent would try something on wake-up, and opted for a beautiful ex-Stepback that won him the round.

On the final round, after being thrown into the corner by Angry Bird, Momochi decided to quick-rise and then followed it up with an ex-Low Parry that won him the match.

Shuto vs Angry Bird (Top 6)

Shuto, one of the surprise finalists of the tournament showed that he is one of the best Urien players in the world. After launching his opponent into the air, he activated Urien’s V-Trigger and threw it right at the spot where Angry Bird was going to land, and then finished the round in style.
