Street Fighter legend Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi has added another championship to his trophy case after he defeated Ryota “John Takeuchi” Takeuchi 3-2 in the thrilling final set of the Capcom Pro Tour Saigon Cup.

Despite being one of the smaller events on the Capcom Pro Tour, the Saigon Cup was loaded with some of the biggest names in competitive Street Fighter, such as Li-Wei “Oil King” Lin, Bruce “GamerBee” Hsiang, Naoto “Sako” Sako, Keta “Fuudo” Ai, Masato “Bonchan” Takahashi, and current Capcom Cup Champion Kanamori “Gachikun” Tsunehiro.

John Takeuchi had actually sent Tokido to the Loser’s bracket in the Winner’s semi-final earlier that day, meaning Tokido would need to win two sets to take the championship.

Tokido played brilliantly in the first best-of-five series, dealing incredible amounts of damage with his Akuma to take the first set and reset the bracket with a 3-1 score.

In the next set, JohnTakeuchi fought back, quickly taking a 2-1 lead.

In the next match, Tokido halted John Takeuchi’s offense with an unbelievable comeback ended by a “Raging Demon” critical art.

With the score tied 2-2, the entire tournament would come down to one final round. Tokido played his usual aggressive, high-risk game, but it paid off for him as he managed to finish off John Takeuchi by hit confirming into another critical art to win it all.

With his victory, Tokido earned 5 million Vietnamese dong (US$215) and 200 CPT points while John Takeuchi walks away with 100 CPT points.

Tokido remains in second place on the Global CPT rankings with 1085 points, while John Takeuchi actually fell one spot to 14th with 305 points.
