With the recent addition of Hero in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, many fans of the game have labeled the Dragon Quest character as overpowered (OP).

The reason for this is that Hero has an RNG element called Thwack. Although rare in occurrence, Thwack works as a one-hit-kill command, even with both characters at 0%. With such a powerful move, it’s no surprise that pro-level players want Hero banned in future tournaments.

While the creators of Dragon Quest XI found that the RNG element was overpowered, they felt that it added to the appeal of their franchise character for players who are just button-mashers, said Hokuto Okamoto, the producer of DQXI, in a Nintendo Life interview.

“They can get in and deliver some really powerful blows and I think that’s kind of a good point about the character,” he added.

With the competitive scene of SSBU dedicated to making competitions very skill-based, there’s a definite possibility that more or more tournaments will ban Hero.

This wouldn’t be the first time that the Smash community has banned a character for unfair advantages. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Meta Knight faced a worldwide competitive ban due to his powerful skillset.
