Team Liquid has announced the Liquid Galaxy Qualifier, a Teamfight Tactics tournament that will act as the first qualifier for North America for the TFT global circuit.

The LGQ begins on May 16, and lasts for eight weeks. The tournament will be filling up its brackets through open sign-ups with each weekly event hosting 256 players. The winner of each week will secure a slot in the final tournament, the Liquid Galaxy Final on July 18.

The Liquid Galaxy Final will have the best of the best fight for two slots at the TFT: North America and Oceania Final. From there, the two regional finalists will proceed to compete at the global Teamfight Tactics: Galaxies Championship for a US$200,000 prize.

Though autobattlers quickly rose to popularity last year, the genre has yet to break into the mainstream of global esports competitions. With such events as the LGQ, Team Liquid co-CEO Steve Arhancet believes that games like TFT will eventually establish a world network for competitions.

“Team Liquid’s roots are in supporting communities around esports, and the Liquid Galaxy Qualifier is our way to support the community around TFT – by celebrating the top players in the space and creating moments fans will remember years from now,” stated Arhancet.

You can catch the first week of the Liquid Galaxy Qualifier on May 16 at Team Liquid’s official Twitch channel.
