A good controller player in Valorant can block off the enemy team’s vision and deny them information at crucial points of the round.
To become a good controller for your team, you’ll need to learn all the best spots to block off.
In Fracture, a complex map with multiple pathways and entrances leading to each site, well-executed smokes hold the potential to impede your opponent’s progress and buy you some time.
We have compiled a list of the top smoke locations for both attackers and defenders on Fracture, tailored to players who are new to the controller agent role.
The most effective Valorant smokes on Fracture for those new to the controller role
For players who are new to controllers, we suggest picking Omen, Astra, or Brimstone on Fracture because these agents can easily place their smokes anywhere on the map.
Omen and Astra have the advantage of casting their smokes from a far distance. However, Brimstone is the best controller to play on the map because his triple smoke is perfect for calculated executes.
Viper and Harbor would still be strong picks on the map, but their abilities will require specific lineups.
Attackers
A site push
If your team is doing a five-man push from A Main, it would be best to smoke off A Ropes, A Link, and A Drop.
This will separate defenders who are already on the site and their teammates rotating from B. However, keep in mind that only Brimstone can smoke simultaneously.
If you’re playing Omen or Astra, your team would be better off doing a split push from A Main and A Drop. By taking control of A Drop, you’ll only need to smoke A Link and A Ropes.
B site push
If your team is looking to take control of the B site, you’ll have to make your way toward the stairs leading to the site.
Once the position is secured, you can smoke off B Generator and B Canteen — the two positions that give defenders good cover and direct line-of-sight to the B site.
When pushing from B Arcade, you could smoke off B Tower to take control of the area. Once secured, you and your teammates could contest B Generator and B Canteen to enter the B site.
Defenders
A site
Defenders should be more cautious when committing their smokes since attackers could always wait them out.
If your opponents have committed to attacking the A site, you’ll need to smoke off A Drop and A Main. Denying the enemy team’s vision of the site will conceal your team’s defensive positions.
A Hall
If you’re looking to deny the enemy team A Main control, you could smoke off the end of the hall where the attackers enter from.
This could lead to the attacking team using recon abilities like Skye’s Trailblazer or Fade’s Prowler to clear the other side of the smoke.
B site
Smoking off the B site to attackers is simple. You should deny them vision by casting a smoke by the top of the stairs of B Main.
You could stay behind the two crates on the B site and fight off the attackers who decide to run through your smoke. With the attackers having to run through the smoke, you could isolate multiple aim duels and deny them access to the site.
Both teams could already be shooting each other at the start of the round if they both decide to push from B Main and B Tree. If controllers are undermanned at this spot, drop a smoke in between the metal covers to deny the enemy team map information.
B Arcade
A carefully placed smoke by the ultimate orb at B Arcade could deter attackers since they could get shot from different positions if they enter the area without using any of their recon abilities.
It is also important to note that while smokes will deny your opponents’ vision, a skilled initiator player can use their agent’s abilities to clear positions. They could reveal your location, even if you are inside or outside of your smoke. Try to keep your opponents guessing and change your positions every round.
