One of the most popular Valorant streamers in the world, Kyedae “Kyedae” Shymko, has opened up about the state of her mental health after it was revealed that Kyedae has cancer.
The 100 Thieves content creator revealed in early March that she would soon undergo treatment for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.
AML is a type of cancer that is more common in older adults, with the average age of diagnosis being 68 years old, according to a study from the American Cancer Society.
Kyedae shares struggles with community during a recent stream
During a recent broadcast, the 22-year-old broke into tears, telling her audience she was having “a really f***king difficult day.”
She would go on to explain that even when it’s not obvious, what she’s going through is difficult to manage. “I obviously only show a little bit of how I’m feeling and what I’m going through, and a lot of people are saying I’m really strong. But I’m not. I’m actually really scared. I’m really f***king scared.”
Kyedae took this as an opportunity to remind her viewers that things aren’t always what they seem. “I wanted to tell you guys this because people on the outside can look like they’re doing well on the outside but, they’re not on the inside,” she explained. “And just please know that everyone is going through stuff and this isn’t just a pity party. It’s not what I want.”
In terms of not wanting a pity party, she even went as far as to not tell her fiance Tyson “TenZ” Ngo of her diagnosis until after he’d returned from the VCT LOCK//IN event in Brazil. Wanting him to be able to focus on the competition, she kept the news a secret.
Her community flooded the chat with supportive messages, and she’s continued to get tons of kind-hearted comments and even received a care package from Riot Games.
