Square Enix’s popular RPG The World Ends with You is getting an anime adaptation.
Officially announced at FunimationCon 2020’s two-day stream, The World Ends with You anime will feature the same art style as the original game.
It will follow the orange-haired protagonist Neku Sakuraba and his fight for existence in the Reapers’ Game set in the middle of Shibuya in Tokyo, Japan. Neku will be played by his original voice actor in the game, Kouki Uchiyama, known for his past roles as Ichijo Raku of Nisekoi, Tomura Shigaraki of My Hero Academia, and Rui of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

The anime will be directed by Kazuya Ichikawa with character designs from Final Fantasy series designers Tetsuya Nomura and Gen Kobayashi. The game’s producer, Tomohiko Hirano, revealed that the development team have always wanted an anime adaptation even during the early development stages of the game but was restricted by financial issues according to Siliconera.
The World Ends with You: The Animation will be produced by Square Enix, Domerica, and Shin-Ei Animation popular for their long-time running anime series Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan.
