Everyone’s favorite speedy blue ball, Sonic the Hedgehog, will be returning to the big screen as confirmed by Paramount Pictures and Sega.

The sequel will be made by the same production team with original director Jeff Fowler and scriptwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller all on board. The action-adventure comedy film still hasn’t confirmed its full cast for the sequel.

The full cast for the sequel has not been confirmed yet, but the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie saw American actor Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, award-winning comedian Jim Carrey as Doctor Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, James Marsden as the Green Hills sheriff Thomas “Tom” Wachowski, and Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski.

An earlier version of the movie received a harsh backlash from the community, which caused the film studio to revamp the appearance of the spiked protagonist and move its showing to February 14.

This move by Paramount might have contributed to the movie’s success, as Sonic the Hedgehog has been declared as the highest-grossing video game movie ever in the US, according to Forbes. It has surpassed Pokémon: Detective Pikachu starring Ryan Reynolds and Resident Evil: Afterlife starring Milla Jovovich.

While waiting for the Sonic sequel, gamers can look forward to other video game adaptations coming soon, including the Mortal Kombat movie reboot and Uncharted starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake.
