Sixteen professional Fortnite: Battle Royale players announced that they have established a players association. The group is known as the Fortnite Professional Players Association (FPPA).

The founding members consist of some of the most renowned pro players in the scene, including Fortnite World Cup Solo Champion Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf and 100 Thieves’ Hayden “Elevate” Krueger.

The FPPA aims to provide pro Fornite players a platform to voice their opinions on the future of the game’s competitive scene, as well as an avenue for productive dialogue with Fortnite developer Epic Games.

Despite the overwhelming popularity of Fortnite and the notably increasing prize pools of its professional tournaments — July’s inaugural Fortnite World Cup had a US$30 million prize pool, for example — many of the game’s pro players have been disgruntled by Epic’s handling of its competitive scene.

One of the more common complaints include the constant introduction of gamebreaking weapons and vehicles to the game, such as the Infinity Blade from Season 7 and the B.R.U.T.E. Mech for the ongoing Season X.

The FPPA seems to be following in the footsteps of the Counter-Strike Professional Players Association (CSPPA), the pro player association for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) which was established August last year.

The CSPPA has successfully negotiated for things like a designated player break. The organization is also working towards having fair minimum contract standards.

The FPPA said that they will be inviting more players to join their ranks in the coming weeks, with the aim of making their collective represent the majority — if not the entirety — of the competitive Fortnite community.
