The duo of Ghost Gaming’s Rocco “Saf” Morales and NRG Esports’ Williams “Zayt” Aubin caught fire in the late stages of the ESL Katowice Royale Duos tournament to take home the trophy and the lion’s share of the US$400,000 prize pool.

In the first day of the Duos Competition, Saf and Zayt performed solidly but finished outside of the Top 3. They then kicked off Day 2 with a bang and took the top spot after Round 10, which they followed up with two straight Victory Royales in Rounds 11 and 12.

Thanks to that two-round explosion, Saf and Zayt held a 161-point advantage over second-place duo TSM’s Vinny “Vinny1x” Gilgan and Anthony “ZexRow” Colandro heading into the final match. While Saf and Zayt finished at just 10th place in the final round, their previous lead provided enough of a cushion for them to win the Duos Competition and the US$80,000 grand prize.
The Eleven Gaming duo of Adam “Boyer” Boyer and Christopher “Crippa” Storkaas finished second to take home $64 thousand, while Vinny1x and ZexRow wen third to take home $48 thousand. Vinny1x also notably won the Solo Competition of the ESL Katowice Royale, which earned him an additional US$20,000.
With the ESL Katowice Royale now over, Fortnite players are looking forward to the Fortnite World Cup taking place later this year in New York City.
